The all-new Specialized Crux 5 has officially arrived — and it’s not just an update to one of the most popular gravel race bikes on the market. It’s a complete rethink of what a gravel race bike can be.
Designed around one goal — getting riders to the finish line faster — the new Crux 5 combines ultra-lightweight construction, aerodynamic efficiency and race-ready capability into what Specialized is calling the fastest gravel race bike they’ve ever made.
And looking at the numbers, it’s easy to see why.

Crux 5 Focuses on the Only Metric That Matters: Time to Finish
Rather than focusing on isolated stats, Specialized built the Crux 5 around one core objective: reducing total race time.
Using what they describe as the most comprehensive gravel race simulations they’ve ever created, Specialized tested the Crux 5 across real-world terrain, race courses and rider scenarios.
The result? The Crux 5 is reportedly up to 9 minutes and 58 seconds faster over Unbound compared to the previous Crux 4.
That’s a massive leap in gravel race performance.

The Crux 5 Is More Aero Than Ever
Aerodynamics are becoming increasingly important in gravel racing, especially as race speeds continue to rise.
Borrowing heavily from the development of the Tarmac SL8, Specialized reshaped every tube on the Crux 5 to improve airflow and reduce drag at real gravel race speeds.
According to Specialized, the new bike saves 15.2 watts compared to the previous generation.
For long-distance gravel racing, those gains add up quickly.
The Crux 5 Delivers Incredible Lightweight Performance
The S-Works Crux 5 frame weighs just 789 grams, putting it right at the top of the lightweight gravel category.
Complete builds start from an incredible 6.9 kg — lighter than many premium road bikes.
Even with a full aero setup, 55 mm tyre clearance and Terra Aero CLX III wheels fitted, the Crux 5 still weighs only 7.1 kg.
Specialized achieved this using its Flow State Design approach, first introduced on the Aethos road bike, stripping away unnecessary material while maintaining stiffness, ride quality and durability.
The Crux 5 Is Built for Speed Everywhere
The Crux 5 isn’t just about headline numbers.
Specialized has focused heavily on ride quality, handling and rider fatigue, aiming to create a bike that stays fast deep into long races.
The new frame keeps the responsive handling and balanced compliance riders loved about the Crux 4 while adding genuine aerodynamic gains and increased capability.
With clearance for tyres up to 55 mm, the Crux 5 is ready for rougher terrain, more traction and improved comfort without compromising race performance.
Meet the New Crux 5 S-Level
Alongside the new platform, Specialized has also introduced the Crux 5 S-Level.
Built using performance-driven innovations developed through S-Works, the S-Level range is designed for riders who want elite-level engineering and race-focused specification.
The Crux 5 S-Level features:
- FACT 10r frame
- FACT 12r fork
- Terra Aero CL wheels
- SRAM DUB bottom bracket
- Stainless headset bearings
- Power Pro saddle with Mirror technology
- Terra cockpit
- SRAM RED AXS XPLR groupset
